Why  does RIM Group Sports and Rehab use Regenerative Injection Therapy?

If you suffer from pain due to a recent or old injury, arthritis, bursitis, or ligament/tendon damage, you may benefit from a uniquely designed program specifically tailored to you and your needs that may include non-surgical Regenerative Injection Therapy (RIT), therapeutic exercises, traditional and integrative orthopedic and nutritional approaches. Our success rate with using Regenerative medicine has been greater than 80%.

A medical treatment that has been helping individuals for over 70 years, which involves injecting a stimulating solution into injured or diseased tissues with the potential to cause these local tissues to proliferate and, therefore, to heal using the body’s own healing mechanism to repair and rebuild injured tissue. The literature reports a greater than 80% response rate and this is also reflective of our personal experience as providers of this treatment. Additionally, it is both exciting for us the physician and our patients to note that permanent repair has been reported and demonstrated in atleast 75% of the cases. 1

Neural Prolotherapy

Neural prolotherapy involves a series of microinjections just below the surface of the skin using a needle that is extremely thin. The injections are performed at locations where the nerve has become inflamed and at tender points along the nerve’s path. In many cases, patients report significant pain reduction by the time they leave the office. Neural Prolotherapy helps restore unhealthy nerves into healthy nerves by targeting a specific type of nerve called peptidergic sensocrine nerves.

PRP ( Platlet Rich Plasma)/ ABI (Autologous Blood Injection)

similar injection therapy to prolotherapy but instead this method utilizes the patient’s own biologic healing properties (PRP or ABI), which is subsequently injected into the injured tissue to stimulate a stalled healing process. This provides the injured tissue a boost in healing growth factors that are inherently low in these areas of the body due to poor blood supply, thus, allowing the tisssue to repair. Research ________ and clinical patient reporting have found that PRP injections can be associated with less discomfort and require less frequent treatments vs. standard prolotherapy in some cases.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Will my insurance company pay for Prolotherapy?

  • Most insurance companies do not currently  ____________________. However, it may be covered if the patient is referred specifically for Regenerative Injection Therapy from Worker's  Compensation. Also, many insurance plans will reimburse  the cost of your initial and subsequent "non-procedure" office visits with RIM Group Sports and Rehab.

What is injected and where?

  • We typically use a substance that stimulates the healing response, such as a solution of dextrose (a kind of sugar) with Prolotherapy or in the case of PRP/ ABI, the patient’s own biologic healing properties, know as growth factors released from platelets, that help coordinate repair and regeneration.

  • Other substances that are commonly used include: sodium morrhuate, saline, and sarapin, or the patient's own biologic cells in the form of platelets (PRP), adipose cells, bone marrow, or autologous cell source.  The selection of the appropriate substance is determined by our treating physician according to the patient’s specific needs.

What are the benefits?

  • 80-85% of people treated with Regenerarative medicine (prolotherapy) state that their pain has disappeared or is significantly  better, after Regenerative Injection Therapy.

  • Regenerative Injection Therapy has been shown to cause dramatic pain reduction in multiple body regions that lead to not just decreased pain, but more importantly, improved overall function without the added side-effects that can commonly be associated with long-term use of pain medications.

  • The relief from pain and dysfunction can be permanent. Pain sometimes recurs as flares, but it's usually less severe and less frequent. Thus, if clinically necessary it's often more easily treated with a single treatment. So, should you require a new evaluation, Dr. Zarinah Hud will be here to help you REBOUND !

Professional athletes including Tiger Woods (professional golfer) and Rafael Nadal (world champion tennis player) have benefited from Regenerative Injection Therapy.

  • RIT has been benefiting thousands of individuals for many years. We here at RIM Group Sports and Rehab also want to make it affordable and accessible to you. _____________ to see if your are a candidate.

Am I a candidate for Prolotherapy dextrose solution if I am Diabetic?

  • Depends. The commonly used "dextrose solution" has not been shown to affect A1C, nor has it shown to cause "spikes" in ones baseline glucose levels. It is a good rule of thumb to have well controlled diabetes before undergoing any procedure (non surgical or surgical). We perform a comprehensive evaluation of each patient and only then can we determine if prolotherapy is right for you. Call our office today to schedule your first Consultation.

Can I afford Regnerative Injection Therapy?

  • Yes. Compared to many treatments that provide temporary relief at best and can often carry greater risk, Prolotherapy, PRP & ABI therapies by our experienced physician are very ______________ .

  • Ligaments and joints of the neck, thoracic, and low back can be thoroughly and safely treated without the need of fluoroscopy which subsequently keeps cost way down.

The total cost of a course of treatment will easily be less than the "out-of-pocket" cost of surgery.

  • Furthermore, studies have shown that surgery can often be delayed and/or prevented in some patients that receive Regenerative Injections Therapy instead.

What can you expect?

  • Most people tolerate this treatment therapy very well. Following the injections you may have mild discomfort in the area, bruising, stiffness and/or swelling anywhere from 1 to 10 days, but typically no more than 3-5 days.

  •  Some people need up to six treatments prior to experiencing maximum results depending on the severity and/or chronicity of the area being treated. Although some patients experience noticeable results after the very first treatment. Healing can continue to occur up to 3-6 months after the last treatment.

  • The treatments are generally given every 3 to 6 weeks (unique to each patient) to allow sufficient time for new collagen growth to be initiated and repair between treatment sessions.

  • Because the PRP/ABI is produced from your own blood, there is no concern for rejection or disease transmission and minimal risk for infection due to our safe sterile techniques used with each and every patient.
